  • The University of Mines is Russia’s oldest
    higher education school devoted
    to engineering. It was founded
    on October 21 OS (November 1 NS) 1773
    by Empress Catherine II. Thus the brainchild
    of Peter the Great and Mikhail Lomonosov
    to train Russian specialists
    for mining was materialized.

  • The University has excellent
    research facilities and well-equipped
    laboratories for studying advanced
    mining and processing technologies,
    the use of mineral resources,
    and the development
    of country resource portfolios.


  • The University of Mines in Saint-Petersburg
    is one of the exemplary higher
    education institutions in Russia.
    It is one of the educational leaders
    both in Europe and in the world.

The International training and research seminar, Mechatronic Control Engineering, for students of the Technological University of Lappeenranta and Saint-Petersburg Mining University has finished. The course of 21 lectures was delivered by Finnish and Russian professors.

The Mining University celebrates its 243 anniversary on the 1st of  November. A decree on the establishment of the first higher technical educational institution in Russia was signed by Empress Catherine II in 1773

A delegation representing the government of Shanxi Province (China) has made a working visit to University. The members were shown the University’s academic and laboratory facilities and negotiated the areas of prospective cooperation with deans of Faculties of Mining, Geological Prospecting, and Oil and Gas.

A joint project to promote oil and gas equipment was discussed during Russian-Indian negotiations. Saint - Petersburg Mining University will be involved in this work.

Rector Vladimir Litvinenko had a working meeting with the delegation of the Schlumberger company headed by Gokhan Saygi, the company’s President in Russia and Central Asia. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation.
